Circular Plastics News #20

Circular Economy Commitments| Sortation Of Flexible Packaging | Ocean-Bound Plastics Standards

LG’s Circular Economy Commitments

LG plans to use a cumulative total of 600,000 tons of recycled plastic from 2021 to 2030 in its production. The LG Chilseo Recycling Center in South Korea is leading LG’s e-waste initiative by collecting electronic waste, re-using recycled plastic for the manufacturing of new components, and shipping parts to the company’s home appliance plant nearby for use in new products.

Partnership To Optimize Sortation Of Flexible Packaging

The Circular Plastic Taskforce and Digimarc Corporation are partnering to optimize the sortation of flexible plastic packaging in Canada. Digimarc Corporation is a creator of digital watermarks, that are applied within the package artwork with no special inks or print process required, and are visible to specialized sorting equipment but imperceptible to consumers.

Collaboration On Ocean-Bound Plastics Standards

OceanCycle, a social enterprise focusing on reducing ocean plastic pollution, has collaborated with UL, a global safety certification company, on new enhanced standards and ethical sourcing criteria for ocean-bound plastics. These standards include new social standards, ethical sourcing criteria, independent validation of all recycled ocean-bound plastics and other aspects.
